Carlos Cardoso

Tenor

Born in Tarouquela, Carlos Cardoso studied at “Beira Interior” with Maestro Ferreira. He won the 1st prize at Luísa Todi, the 3rd at Magda Olivero and the 1st at Rotary Club in Lisbon. In 2010/11, he was a member of the Opera Studio of Teatro S. Carlos in Lisbon and in 2011/13 of the “Accademia del Teatro alla Scala” in Milan, with which he sang in concerts and Opera productions. Further debuts included performances at Dutch National Opera Amsterdam, Parma Verdi Festival, Teatro Sao Carlo in Lisbon, Stadttheater Klagenfurt, Opera Vilnius, Teatro Verdi di Trieste, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Musikverein Vienna and Grafenegg Festival.

Since 2017 he has been a member of the ensemble of the Aalto Theater Essen. His repertoire includes, among the others, the roles of Duca in Rigoletto, Ismaele in Nabucco, Alfredo in La Traviata, Rodolfo in Luisa Miller and in La Bohème, Tebaldo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Narraboth in Salome, Janacek’s Glagolitische Messe, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle and Dvorak’s Requiem. Next season in Essen he will give his debut as Riccardo in Un ballo in Maschera, Adorno in Simone Boccanegra and Pollione in Norma.
