Johann Sebastian Bach

St Matthew Passion, BWV 244
Total approximate duration: 120 min

First performed on Good Friday in 1727, the St Matthew Passion is a monumental work by J. S. Bach that today occupies a supreme place within the great choral repertoire. Working from a libretto by Picander (Christian Friedrich Henrici), his collaborator on many cantatas, Bach follows in this monumental composition the final days in the life of Jesus Christ, intertwining the narrative from the Gospel according to St Matthew with Picander’s poetry. Three hundred years after its premiere, this overwhelming work will once again be conducted by Martina Batič.
