Premiered in 1902, at the dawn of the 20^th century, Jean Sibelius’ 2^nd Symphony is one of the most celebrated works by the Finnish composer, written in a period of Finland’s identity emancipation in the face of Russian occupation. In January 2018, the Gulbenkian Orchestra performed this work under the direction of Hannu Lintu.
