Few authors have been as inspiring for all the other arts as William Shakespeare. The work of the English playwright left deep marks in musical creation, in particular the story of the tragic, doomed love of Romeo and Juliet, in their attempt to make their love overcome the hatred between their two families. Shakespeare’s immense emotional palette gave rise to two Russian masterpieces, by Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev, both still the object of passionate debates about which of the two captures with greater perfection the most famous pair of lovers of all time.
