Rinaldo Alessandrini, the founder and director of the Concerto Italiano, has been widely considered a leading expert in the work of Monteverdi. His interpretations of Italian music of the 17th and 18th centuries have brought about a revolution in the understanding of this repertoire, especially the madrigals of Monteverdi. Gradually, he has also opened up his spectrum of interests, and in 2009 recorded Mozart’s Operatic Overtures with the Norwegian National Opera, his first orchestral recording with modern instruments.
