Lyrische Symphonie, op. 18
(for soprano, baritone and orchestra)

When he released, in 2006, his rendition of the Lyric Symphony, Zemlinsky’s masterpiece, the German baritone Matthias Goerne achieved unbeatable international repute, wining several major record awards that year. Goerne now returns to the Gulbenkian Orchestra to, with soprano Maria Bengtsson and conductor Lorenzo Viotti, resume the piece that the composer described as having a familial relationship with Gustav Mahler’s The Song of the Earth, and where, with two voices, seven movements unfold to dive into the several stages of love.
