Johann Sebastian Bach

Sonata No. 3 in C major, BWV 1005

Duration: 100 minutes

Second recital of cellist Mario Brunello this season, dedicated to Sonatas and Partitas by J. S. Bach. After 30 years of regularly returning to the inevitable Suites for Solo Cello, Brunello adopted the piccolo cello in order to be able to perform the Partitas and Sonatas that the Germanic composer created for the violin. In an interview, he explained that these pieces “are a whole other world, unknown to a cellist”, with a “musical language and architecture that do not exist in the repertoire for solo cello”. This original approach has expanded Brunello’s technical and expressive range admirably.
