Part of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the birth of Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian, this concert focuses on one of the most astonishing Armenian composers, Tigran Mansurian. Considered the most important composer in contemporary Armenia, Mansurian composed a Requiem in memory of the victims of the Armenian genocide that took place in Turkey between 1915 and 1917. The piece became one of the cornerstones in his work, having been described by the Los Angeles Times as music “in which deep cultural pain is quieted through an eerily calm, heart-wrenching beauty”.
