Based in Antwerp, the Belgian collective Graindelavoix has achieved the status of one of the most inspired and fascinating vocal groups of the last two decades. Bringing together performers from different musical traditions, Graindelavoix has built an unrivalled reputation as a result of its inventive interpretations of early music, reviving them and giving them a new lease of life. In this return to the Gulbenkian, the programme is based around the work of the 16th-century composer Josquin des Prez, whose final creations insistently explored the ideas of death, decadence, regret and melancholy but which are brought to life through the voices of Graindelavoix.
