Born in Russia and starting piano lessons with her father, the celebrated Dmitri Bashkirov, in 1997 Elena Bashkirova founded the festival of which she is still artistic director. She is now a prominent figure in the dissemination in Israeli territory of the most demanding chamber music repertoire. A German critic has described her as “an impressive role model as a pianist who animates every sound with figurative language and life”. This is the first of three events in which musicians from the Jerusalem Chamber Music Festival Ensemble perform at Gulbenkian Música.
