Duration 90 min (without intermission)

Afghan folk songs and mystical poetry comprise a rich palette of Pashtun, Tajik, Baluchi and Hazara musical traditions interwoven into a harmony of colours. The incisive metallic and mercurial sounds of the rubab lute, with its pleasant chords, evoke a mountainous land as well as its people and their warrior pride. Singer and composer Homayoun Sakhi, who lives in the USA, personifies the renewal of classical and traditional Afghan music, developing his own musical style by reinterpreting the classical repertoire in a unique way and giving it a new impulse through improvisation.
