First performance by Giancarlo Guerrero as Principal Guest Conductor of the Gulbenkian Orchestra. A naturally gifted and instinctive musician, the current Musical Director of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra directs in these concerts not only key works by Dvořák and Brahms, but also the star of flamenco guitar (Juan Manuel) Cañizares. The guitarist belonged to the group of Paco de Lucía, and played on Lucía’s recording of that essential work for guitar, the Concierto de Aranjuez. In 2011, it was his turn to perform Joaquín Rodrigo’s work, to great acclaim, under the baton of Simon Rattle.
