The Gulbenkian Orchestra had its first public performance on the 22nd October 1962, at Teatro Nacional D. Maria II. In a festive atmosphere, the doors of the Grand Auditorium will be open for everyone to come and celebrate the anniversary of an orchestra that, during 60 years of activity, contributed to enriching the Portuguese musical landscape, created a catalogue of over 70 recordings and performed alongside some of the world’s greatest interpreters, in over 35 countries. Lorenzo Viotti, the Principal Guest Conductor, will revisit his deep complicity with the Gulbenkian Orchestra and Choir, conducting a programme with works by Johannes Brahms side by side with Pēteris Vasks’ Agnus Dei.
