In 2000, the Armenian violinist Sergey Khachatryan became the youngest musician to win the Jean Sibelius International Competition in Helsinki, and he performed for the first time with the Gulbenkian Orchestra the following year. Admitting to be an interpreter who is passionate about the pieces he chooses for each concert or recital, he told The Independent that, unlike many musicians who go on stage because this is their “job”, he is afraid of such a word. “Every time I go out on stage, I want to be in a special state, to create a special atmosphere.”
