Poet, composer and printer, Jaime de la Té y Sagáu is one of the best kept secrets of Iberian music. Born in Barcelona at the end of the seventeenth century, Té y Sagáu arrived in Portugal in 1706 or 1707 to participate in the marriage negotiations of King João V with Maria Anna of Austria It was in this period that he began composing cantatas in honour of Queen Maria Anna. Merging his various talents, he frequently occupied himself with both music and words, and embarked on such a high output that today more than 250 cantatas are attributed to him, both sacred and profane.
