René Lalique and the Age of Glass

Lalique often turned to lost-wax casting, a technique derived from an ancient system of casting objects in bronze. Complex and meticulous, this manufacturing process was employed by the artist for his most elaborate creations, intended for demanding collectors who sought prestigious objects. Calouste Gulbenkian bought from Lalique more than ten of these rare works, almost unique, mainly vases but also statuettes and other objects.
