Gifts from the Kingdom of Naples
In the fourth episode of the ‘Treasures from Kings’ series, curator André Afonso talks about the sumptuous offerings made from the Kingdom of Naples to the Holy Land.
It was thanks to the development of the arts promoted by King Charles of Bourbon that Naples became the center of European enlightenment.
The strengthening of its diplomatic relations helped the monarch reinforce his honorary title of ‘King of Jerusalem.’ Among his offerings, a monstrance, a eucharistic baldachin, and a crucifix stand out, which constitute the most important set of liturgical works of art ever sent to the Holy Land.
