Hera and Zeus

Hera, the wife of Zeus, was the goddess of marriage. Portrayed as jealous and aggressive, she hated and persecuted Zeus’s lovers and the offspring of these relationships, so much so that she tried to kill Herakles while still at a young age.

Hera is represented on the obverse of various coins in the Collection: driving a four-horse chariot, her head crowned with lotus flowers and palm leaves), her head with stefano decorated with palm leaves, with an eagle on the reverse or a labyrinth and, finally, on a reverse with the divine couple Zeus and Hera reunited, as a counterpoint to the royal couple represented on the obverse, Mithridates IV and Laodike.
