Auditorium 3 Calouste Gulbenkian FoundationAs the Post-Pop exhibition demonstrates, British artists and designers provided a strong creative stimulus for the development of the work of the post-Second World War generation of Portuguese artists. Focusing on the work of a several key figures this talk examines the cultural, social and political influences of British Pop Art and Design and investigates the resulting, often subtle, synergies between the British and Portuguese art scenes.
This lecture takes place in the context of the exhibition Post-Pop. Beyond the commonplace.
Speaker: Alex Seago
Alex Seago is Dean of the School of Communication, Arts and Social Sciences at Richmond – The American International University in London. He is the author ofBurning the Box of Beautiful Things (Oxford University Press, 1995) and co-editor with Professor Anne Massey of Pop Art and Design (Bloomsbury, 2018). Both books focus upon the cultural history of British art and design during the 1950s and 1960s.
