The exhibition presented by Filipa César (Porto, 1975) at the Project Space in the Modern Collection takes the form of an installation and an essay film addressing creolisation beyond language and as a way of thinking about the world. The film Quantum Creole emerged following a process of collective research, drawing on different moving image formats (video, 16 mm and 3D animation), and is one of the three ‘seasons’ or exhibition moments planned by the artist in a long-term international itinerary spanning three institutions: Haus der Kulturen der Welt, in Berlin, the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, in Lisbon, and Tabakalera, in San Sebastián.

The booklet accompanying the exhibition, available in Portuguese and English, contains an essay by the curator, Leonor Nazaré, which is divided into three main parts: a theoretical framing of the artist’s work, a commentary on the performance held at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, which preceded the Lisbon exhibition, and a reflection on the Quantum Creole project. The text is interspersed with a selection of stills from the essay film showing the textiles and cotton plants of Guinea-Bissau, as well as several scenes from the performance in Berlin.
