Engraving played a fundamental role in disseminating the image of the city of Venice, allowing ‘vedute’ to spread all around Europe and reach a broader audience.
On this visit, Patrícia Simões, assistant curator for the exhibition ‘Splendour in Venice. From Canaletto to Guardi,’ reveals how engraving contributed to the construction of the floating city in the collective imagination, as well as bringing to light the works of the great painters of the time.
