By observing paintings from the Gulbenkian Collection, we will discover how artists have worked with landscapes and backgrounds throughout history.
What does the background of a painting tell us? Is what appears in the foreground always more important? Is a landscape merely a backdrop?
Monochromatic or more complex, one thing is certain: backgrounds reveal much more than one might think!
In the end, and because, deep down, imagination has no limits, we will create a collective portrait against a background tailored to our needs.
