Location
Calouste Gulbenkian Museum Meeting point: HallThe use of clandestine pamphlets and publications to spread urgent messages and ideas from hand to hand, with varying degrees of graphic creativity and always with limited resources, is nothing new. Based on the exhibition ‘Censorship and Revolution. Forbidden Books in the Age of Enlightenment,’ this artistic workshop explores the world of these publications.
Artist and researcher Rita Cortez Pinto sheds light on the world of fanzines and self-publication through historical context and practical tools, with a view to producing creative content and materialising it by publishing multiples on paper. Participants are challenged to create an individual visual language, through the exploration of various techniques of graphic design, typography, printing, folding and binding, with the aim of creating a project individually and in groups. Participation includes step-by-step notes for the creation of a fanzine.
