Designed in the 1960s by landscape architects António Viana Barreto and Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles, the Gulbenkian Garden is a celebration of the harmony between humanity and nature. The Garden reflects Calouste Gulbenkian’s interest in the natural world, which led him to acquire the ‘Les Enclos’ estate in Normandy in 1937, where he built a huge garden that became his refuge.
During the Museum’s closure for renovation works, the Natura Mirabilis. Art and Nature audio tour brings together these two interests of the Collector and invites visitors to listen to the voices of curators and researchers, who take an in-depth look at works from the Gulbenkian Collection. At twelve stops along the route, each work of art – created by masters such as René Lalique, Edward Burne-Jones and Félix Ziem – is paired with an equivalent echo in the fauna, flora and unique atmospheres of the Garden, generating unexpected moments of contemplation.
This tour is the result of a collaboration between the teams at the Gulbenkian Museum and Garden, and opens simultaneously with the launch of the publication Natura Mirabilis. Art and Nature, published by Franco Maria Ricci, a publisher specialising in collectible art books.
