Life and Work. An insight into the lives of 18th-century Parisian cabinetmakers
Event Slider
Admired by art lovers from the moment it was first created, the harmonious proportions, rich materials and superb craftsmanship of French 18th-century furniture are testament to the skills and techniques of the cabinetmakers, bronze workers and designers who together brought these pieces to fruition.
Whilst much is known about the patrons of these fashionable and expensive objects, much less is known about the men and women who produced them, the life they led or the environment in which they worked. This lecture will look at what life was like for the cabinetmakers and aims to cast a light into the shadows of artisan life in 18th-century Paris.
Conference in the context of the exhibition «The Golden Age of French Furniture. From the Workshop to the Palace».
