Resilience, autonomy and imagination

Round table in the context of the exhibition Tamás Kaszás. Joy of Surviving.

The exhibition Joy of Surviving, which we translated in Portuguese as “Alegria e Sobrevivência”, underlining and amplifying the poetic and commutative relationship between these two word-concepts, is the first individual exhibition of Tamás Kaszás (1976, Dunaújváros, Hungary) in Portugal. For this exhibition, Tamás Kaszás brings together a set of individual and collaborative works that, departing from an imminent scenario of ecological and economic collapse, gives rise to the creation of a fiction of an alternative future – which is simultaneously a “survival manual” for the present – constructed from the values of imagination, collaboration, the collective, self-sufficiency, and the recovery and reinterpretation of an ancestral folk science. Being prepared for a future collapse, or for the future after collapse, also means more autonomy in the present in relation to the regulatory structures of the state and the economy.

This event seeks to create another space for reflection on these issues by gathering around the same table projects of intervention and theoretical contributions in the field of “realisable” utopias, urban agriculture, permaculture and environmental ethics.

Speakers: António Alvarenga, Maria José Varandas, Adriana Freire and Graça Ribeiro.
