David Nirenberg to deliver the GIAS Inaugural Lecture
The Gulbenkian Institute for Advanced Study will welcome David Nirenberg, Director of the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, for its inaugural lecture.
A historian and a medievalist, David Nirenberg will discuss the role of institutes for advanced study as spaces for intellectual experimentation, sustained inquiry and conversation across disciplines.
On 11 November, at 18:30, he will deliver the GIAS Inaugural Lecture, Experimental Forms for Intellectual Life.
On 12 November, at 18:00, Professor Nirenberg will again appear, in conversation with José Maria Pimentel, creator and host of the 45 Graus podcast. The topic will be Why the Humanities Matter Today. The conversation will also be available on that podcast.
Admission to both events is free, subject to availability.
The GIAS will henceforth sponsor an annual lecture, always in the autumn.
