The Art Library supports research for book awarded at PhotoEspaña 2024
This book, co-published by GHOST, Pierrot le Fou and STET, presents the results of an unprecedented investigation into the recent history of the Portuguese photography book as a resource for artistic and documentary creation and a point of convergence for collaboration between photographers, designers, writers and publishers. This research was carried out as part of the project “Images and Books. Study on the photographic editorial heritage in Portugal (1974 to the present)” and was funded by IHA/NOVA.
The Art Library hosted the research in its space between September 2021 and March 2022. Its support also included the access to its collections, which include a considerable part of the 88 photography books that are the subject of the study, and the public presentation of the book, which took place at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation on 19 January this year.
This support is part of Art Library’s strategy to strengthen its role as a platform for bringing together the protagonists of artistic research and creation in Portugal and as an independent research infrastructure that fosters critical thinking, scientific knowledge and the development of talent in the fields of visual arts, architecture and design.
