Tiling images

Photographic production that served to support the collection and inventory of tiles carried out by the Brigada de Estudos de Azulejaria between 1958 and 1969.

The Brigada de Estudos de Azulejaria, created by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in 1960 and directed by João Miguel dos Santos Simões, aimed at collecting information about the tiles in Portugal.

For the purpose, it carried out several campaigns to trace and inventory tiles in mainland Portugal, the Azores, Madeira, and Brazil and collected images produced by parish priests, institutions, professional and amateur photographers.
