With a remarkably vast repertoire from J. S. Bach to Lutoslawski, cellist Antonio Meneses has also sought to expand it beyond the works of the past, regularly commissioning new work for cello from contemporary composers. His encounter with cellist Mstislav Rostropovich will have been behind his understanding that, besides interpretative rigour, he should also remain open to fantasy and to the metaphors that music enables.
