In 2016, the conductor Juanjo Mena received the National Music Award in Spain in recognition of his professional career on the main international stages and his leadership of the most prestigious orchestras in the world. This career includes his recent debut conducting the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and the work accomplished as Principal Conductor of the BBC Philharmonic in Manchester. Juanjo Mena has also managed to mount an energetic defence of the Spanish repertoire with unusual musical versatility, conducting the great classic works and contemporary pieces with equal quality.
