Pedro Miguel Pereira Fernandes was born in 1990 in Viana do Castelo. He initially studied at the Escola Profissional de Música de Viana do Castelo under the teachers Sónia Feijó and Bruno Rafael. In 2008, he was admitted to the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo do Porto (ESMAE) where he studied with Bohdan Sebestik and Abel Pereira and graduated in 2012. In 2017, he completed his master’s degree in Education at the University of Minho’s Instituto de Educação.

He has taken part in and attended masterclasses in Portugal and abroad given by Ab Koster, Abel Pereira, Froydis Ree Wekre, Hermann Baumann, Javier Bonet, Jindřich Petrás, Jiří Havlik, Jonathan Luxton, José Bernardo Silva, Michelle Stebleton, Radovan Vlatkovic, Spanish Brass Luur Metalls, Will Sanders, Zdeněk Divoký and Zoltán Mácsai, among others.

In 2008, he came second in the youth category at the 1st “Terras de La Salette” National Wind Instrument Competition and in 2019 he was awarded first place in the senior category, as well as the Dona Aldina Prize, at the 14th “Terras de La Salette” International Wind Instrument Competition.

He has been a member of the Orquestra APROARTE, Orquesta Joven de la Sinfónica de Galicia, Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa. As a guest performer, he has played with the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música, Orquestra de Câmara do Minho, Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, Gulbenkian Orchestra, Fundação Orquestra Estúdio, Orquesta de la Comunidade de Madrid, Orquestra Clássica da Madeira, Oviedo Filarmonía, BBC Philharmonic, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Remix Ensemble Casa da Música, Orquestra Sinfónica de Bilbau and Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias directed by renowned conductors such as Antoni Rós Marbá, Antonio Pappano, Christoph König, Daniele Gatti, David Afkham, Douglas Bostock, Eliahu Inbal, Emilio Pomàrico, Evgeny Bushkov, Gilbert Varga, Harry Lith, Herbert Blomstedt, James Judd, John Storgårds, Jonathan Nott, Joseph Vicente, Joseph Young, Juanjo Mena, Kent Nagano, Kirill Petrenko, Leo Mcfall, Lothar Zagrosek, Michael Sanderling, Michael Zilm, Olari Elts, Peter Rundel, Pietro Rizzo, Philippe Jordan, Simone Young, Sir Colin Davis, Takuo Yuasa and Yoel Gamzou. He is currently a member of the Gulbenkian Orchestra and the Quarteto Português de Trompas.
