Violin

Otto da Casa de Pereira was born in 1983, in Sofia, Bulgaria. He began studying music with his brother, Emilian Petrov, and in 2001 finished the Violin Course at the Conservatório Regional do Algarve. In the same year, he joined the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra, where he was a student of Liviu Scripcaru, and from which he graduated in 2006 with the highest classification. He was awarded a scholarship from both AMEC and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

He has appeared in several national and international festivals, playing with various orchestras and chamber music ensembles. In 2005, he won the “Young Musicians Prize”, and was awarded the Maestro Silva Pereira Award after his solo performance with the Gulbenkian Orchestra.

He also plays regularly in chamber music recitals and as a soloist with orchestras, namely the Orquestra Académica Metropolitana, Orquestra de Câmara de Sintra, Orquestra A2M, Nova Orquestra de Lisboa, the Orquestra do Algarve, Orquestra de Câmara de Cascais e Oeiras, the Orquestra Gulbenkian and the Ukraine National Symphony Orchestra. He has given duet recitals with the pianist João Crisóstomo at Casa da Música and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

He is a member of the Ensemble 20/21, the Tetrakis Ensemble and the string quartet Tempus. Between 2006 and 2008, he was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra. He has been a member of the Gulbenkian Orchestra since 2007.
