Neojiba Orchestra
The Youth Orchestra of Bahia is the main formation of NEOJIBA, a program of the Government of the State of Bahia that in 2022 celebrates its 15th anniversary. Its artistic director and principal conductor is the Bahian musician Ricardo Castro. Comprised of almost 100 young people aged between 13 and 27, it was created in 2007 with the characteristic of the pedagogical performance of its members, directly or indirectly involved in the musical training of more than 6,000 children and adolescents in the state of Bahia. Standing out in the national and international scene, it has already given more than 300 presentations to an audience of 485 thousand people. In 2010, it became the first Brazilian youth orchestra to perform in Europe and since then has performed seven international tours in Europe and USA. Resident Orchestra of the Septembre Musical de Montreux, Switzerland in 2014 and 2016, the orchestra has played in venues such as the Philharmonie in Paris, Santa Cecilia in Rome, Konzertsaal in Berlin, Victoria Hall in Geneva and the Royal Festival Hall in London. Artists such as Martha Argerich, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Midori, Maxim Vengerov, Maria João Pires, Lang Lang, Shlomo Mintz, Katia & Marielle Labèque and David Grimal are some of the names who have performed with the orchestra as soloists.
