The Mettis Quartet was founded in 2011 during Professor Augustinas Vasiliauskas’ string quartet classes at the Lithuanian Academy of Music & Theatre (LMTA). From its first performances, this young and ambitious Quartet was rated as one of the most promising ensembles of LMTA. All of its members – Kostas Tumosa (violin), Bernardas Petrauskas (violin), Karolis Rudokas (viola) and Rokas Vaitkevičius (cello) – are prize winners of many national and international competitions.

Mettis String Quartet is a second prize winner at the 8th Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition (France 2016), winner of the IX International V.E. Rimbotti Competition in Fiesole (Italy), winner of the Gottfried von Einem Prize (Austria). In 2014, it became a member of the ECMA (European Chamber Music Academy). In 2016, the Quartet made its debut at the prestigious Wigmore Hall in London, has shared the stage with such luminaries as Miguel da Silva, the violist of Ysaÿe Quartet, Mūza Rubackytė, Cremona Quartet, etc.

Metis is ancient Greek mythological figure, Oceanid from the Titans’ generation. The Greek word metis meant quality that combined wisdom, cunning and skills.
