Magnus Holmander

Clarinet

Magnus Holmander´s passion for contemporary music and his experimental curiosity, both as a musician and performer, have resulted in close collaborations with many Swedish composers, notably Rolf Martinsson and Anders Hillborg. In addition to their chamber music pieces, Magnus has performed both of their clarinet concertos, which has led him to several soloist appearances in halls such as the Grieg Hall in Bergen, the Royal Festival Hall in London, Konserthuset Stockholm and the Auditorium in Milan amongst others.

Magnus also works frequently with the new generation of Swedish composers and has premiered pieces of composers such as Andrea Tarrodi, Jacob Mülhrad, Benjamin Stearn and Klara Stirner. Recently the promising composer Ylva Fred wrote a piece for clarinet and piano where Magnus uses his skills as an illusionist to make the clarinet levitate.

Since 2013 Magnus has participated as a clarinettist, dancer and magician in Martin Fröst’s productions Dollhouse and Genesis which have now been performed on numerous occasions in concert halls across northern Europe.

In May 2017, Magnus participated to the most important chamber music competition in Sweden, “Ung & Lovande” (“Young and Promising”), together with accordion player Irina Seroytuk, playing several of their own arrangements. Since then, Magnus and Irina have been frequently touring for performances around Sweden. Magnus did both his bachelor and masters studies at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, studying with Hermann Stefánsson and Emil Jonason.
