Dmitry Ulyanov

In 2000 Dmitry Ulyanov graduated from the Ural State Conservatory, and in the same year won the Grand Prix at the I International Vocal Competition in Astana (Kazakhstan) under the aegis of UNESCO.
In 1997-1998 he was a soloist of the Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theatre. In 1998-2000, he joined The Kolobov Novaya Opera Theatre of Moscow, where he performed Loredan (Verdi’s I Due Foscari), Varlaam (Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov) and Stromminger (Catalani’s Wally). He has toured in Russia and Europe.
Since 2000 Dmitry Ulyanov has been a soloist of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Musical Theatre. His repertoire includes the following parts: Ivan Khovansky (Mussorgsky’s Khovanshchina), Kutuzov (Prokofiev’s War and Peace), Raimondo (Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor) Lindorf-Coppelius-Dapertutto-Miracle (Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Padre Guardiano (Verdi’s La Forza del Destino), Golova (Rimsky-Korsakov’s May Night), Don Basilio (Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Don Alfonso (Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte), Prince Gremin (Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin), Rocco (Beethoven’s Fidelio), Colline (Puccini’s La Bohème), Prince Gudal (Rubinstein’s Demon), Hermann (Wagner’s Tannhäuser), Ramfis (Verdi’s Aida) and the title part in Mozart’s Don Giovanni. He took part in the international tours of the Stanislavsky Opera (USA, Germany, South Korea, Italy, Estonia, Latvia).
In 2008-09, he took part in the production of Macbeth, singing the role of Banco at the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre and Paris National Opera co-production (conducted by Teodor Currentzis, directed by Dmitri Tcherniakov).
In 2010, he sang the role of Cardinal de Brongy in Halévy’s La Juive at the Israeli Opera, Tel-Aviv (directed by David Pountney, conducted by Daniel Oren). He participated in the productions of the Opera Municipal de Marseille, Monte-Carlo Opera, Opéra National du Rhin, Strasbourg, Theatre du Capitole, Toulouse, Teatro Lirico di Cagliari (Italy), Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona. In 2011-2012, he sang King Rene (Iolanta) at the Teatro Real (Madrid).
After his debut in 2011 at the Teatro Real de Madrid as Marseille in a concert performance of the Meyerbeer’s Les Huguenots,conducted by Renato Palumbo, he began to work closely with the Teatro Real and other Spanish theaters, such as the Teatro Maestranza in Seville (Grand Inquisitor in Verdi’s Don Carlos, Hunding in Wagner’s Die Walküre, Ramfis in Verdi’s Aida), Festival in La Coruna (Sparafucile in Verdi’s Rigoletto with Leo Nucci in the title role). In 2012, he performed at the Teatro Real role of King Rene (Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta) in a new production, directed by Peter Sellars and conducted by Teodor Currentzis. The performance was broadcasted on MEZZO and released on DVD. His repertoire in the theater includes the roles of Pimen in Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov (conducted by Hartmut Henhen, directed by Johan Simons, 2012), Don Basilio in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia (2013).
In 2013, he made his debut on the stage of the Opera Bilbao in the role of Procida in Verdi’s I Vespri Siciliani.
In 2009, he made his debut at the Bolshoi Theatre as Doctor in Berg’s Wozzeck (directed by Dmitry Chernyakov, conducted by Teodor Currentzis). In 2014, he sang Escamillo (Bizet’s Carmen) and Philip II (Verdi’s Don Carlos). In 2016 – Boris Timofeyevich in Katerina Izmailova, in 2017 — title part in Boris Godunov, in 2018 – Don Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia).
In the season of 2014/15, he sang Escamillo in Carmen (New National Theatre in Tokyo), Don Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Gran Teatre del Liceu), Cardinal de Broigny in La Juive (Opera Vlaanderen), Dosifey in Khovanshchina (Opera Basel).
Carries on an intensive concert activity, collaborating with the Yurlov Russian State Academic Choir, the State Symphony Capella under Valery Polyansky. He cooperates with several Russian opera houses (Saint-Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Perm, Cheboksary).
In 2015, he made his first appearance at the Aix-en-Provence as King Rene in Iolanta (conducted by Teodor Currentzis, directed by Peter Sellars). He also appeared as Don Basilio in the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, King Rene at the Opéra National de Lyon (conductor Martin Brabbins, director Peter Sellars), General in The Gambler (Opéra de Monte Carlo).
In the season 2016 / 17 Dmitry Ulyanov debuted in such parts as Daland in Der fliegende Holländer (The Vlaamse Opera), Khan Konchak and Vladimir Galitsky in Prince Igor (Dutch National Opera), Dodon in The Golden Cockerel (Teatro Real Madrid).
In August of 2017 he debuted at the Salzburg Festival as Boris Timofeyevich in a new production of Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District (conductor Mariss Jansons, director Andreas Kriegenburg).
In the season 2017/18 debuted as General in a new production of Prokofiev’s The Gambler at the Vienna State Opera (conductor Simone Young, director Karoline Gruber). Appeared in Attila production of the Opéra National de Lyon (title part), and in Aida (Ramfis) at the Deutsche Opera am Rhein, Duisburg. In the same season he made his Teatro di San Carlo (Napoli) debut as Boris Timofeyevich.
