David Wahnon

Violin

David Wahnon was born in 1963. He began his violin studies at the Amateur Academy of Music under maestro Fernando Cabral before continuing at the Amigos das Crianças Musical Foundation. He completed the General Violin Course at the National Conservatory. In 1985, he was accepted into Hochshule für Musik, in Detmold, Germany, in the class of Tibor Varga. In this higher education academy, he also studied with Volker Worliztch and Andreas Fischer. Taking up residence in Germany, he taught at the Halle School of Music. Simultaneously, he joined the group of lead violinists in the Tibor Varga Chamber Orchestra and the European Community Chamber Orchestra. In the service of these two formations, he has played in the majority of European capitals and participated in countless music festivals in Sion, Oxford, London, Paris, Athens, Cremona, Istanbul and Madrid.

In 1990, he joined the Hildesheim Opera Orchestra as Assistant Concert Master. In 1992, following the recruitment tender, he joined the group of lead violinists in the Gulbenkian Orchestra. Henceforth, he has made numerous performances as a soloist in recitals with piano, in trios, quartets and with the orchestra. Featuring among his many performances are those at the Festivals of Sintra, Algarve and Leiria, with the now defunct Sousa Carvalho Chamber Orchestra (made up of Gulbenkian Orchestra members), the recitals held in Auditorium Two of the Gulbenkian Foundation as well as the recital recorded live for RDP that included works by Prokofiev and Fernando Lopes-Graça, with the pianist Helena Vasques. For the latter, he selected Pequeno Tríptico for release on CD forming part of a set of works issued to commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of the composer’s birth. He taught violin at the Metropolitan Conservatory and at the Amigos das Crianças Musical Foundation. In 2005, he graduated from ESML with an average grade of nineteen in twenty.
