Dávid Bekker

Piano

Dávid Bekker began to play piano in 1997 when, at the age of five, he first attended the local music school in his hometown of Balmazújváros, Hungary. He soon enrolled at the Béla Bartók Conservatory of Music in Budapest, which was followed by his formal collegiate education at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, where he studied with Jenő Jandó and András Kemenes. His piano studies have since led to travels throughout Europe, highlighted by training with legendary Russian professor Dmitri Bashkirov at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofia in Madrid, Spain.

Bekker has performed with several orchestras, including the Béla Bartók Conservatory Symphonic Orchestra, the Alla Turca Chamber Orchestra, and the Vác Symphonic Orchestra with which he toured. As an outstanding participant in the Bellagio Festival 2012, he was invited to perform a solo recital for the Rockefeller Foundation in Bellagio, Italy. Bekker has received the top prize in numerous competitions, including the Hungarian National Piano Competition, the International Piano Competition of Kosice, and the Béla Bartók International Piano Competition of Wien. In 2009 he received the György Ferenczy Aritistic Award in Hungary.

In the spring of 2015 Bekker was named the first Oberlin-Como Fellow, marking the inauguration of Oberlin’s partnership with the International Piano Academy at Lake Como, Italy. Founder and Artistic Director William Naboré of the academy has praised Bekker for his “wonderful pianism and warmth of feeling in his interpretations,” calling him “one of the greatest talents of the rising generation!”.

The European Concert Hall Organization (ECHO) has named Horacio Ferreira portugal clarinetist, collaborating with David Bekker, a Rising Star for the 2016/2017 season, offering the opportunity to share recitals in performance spaces throughout Europe.
