Baritone

While completing his medical studies Christian Gerhaher took private singing lessons with Raimund Grumbach and Paul Kuen and attended master-classes given by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf. For many years now, together with his piano accompanist Gerold Huber, Christian Gerhaher’s exemplary lied interpretations have set standards and their recordings have received many awards, a. o. the Gramophone Award, the BBC Music Award and the Royal Philharmonic Society Music Award. In the field of opera he received a. o. the prestigious Laurence Olivier Award. A DVD by Accentus makes his highly celebrated debut as Wozzeck at the Zurich Opera available to a wider audience. In April 2016 he returned to Royal Opera House in his key role Wolfram. Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic, Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna and the Wigmore Hall have chosen the baritone as their artist in residence. Christian Gerhaher is an exclusive artist of Sony Classical. The latest recordings are Mozart Arias (Sony) and Folkslieder (BRmedia) with songs by Beethoven, Britten and Haydn.
