The centenary of the birth of Iannis Xenakis in 2022 will be commemorated at the Gulbenkian Foundation with an ambitious programme that reveals his unusual qualities in the various fields he excelled in during the 20th century – mathematics, architecture, engineering and, of course, composing. In this first immersive concert of Xenakis’s work, the Gulbenkian Choir and Orchestra will perform two of his iconic pieces, Anastenaria and Pithoprakta, examples of his exploration of Greek culture and science, complemented by pieces from Pierre Boulez and their mentor Olivier Messiaen.
