One of the most outstanding contemporary composers, Thomas Adès, from England, is also an excellent pianist and conductor. After presenting and directing several of his works in Gulbenkian Music in 2012, this time he will be performing as a pianist, a role in which his qualities enraptured the New York Times in 2010: “He gave a concert on his own terms, choosing unusual and seldom-performed pieces”. Among these pieces, Janáček’s On an Overgrown Path, the critics highlighted “the elusive charm of music through a sensitive and beautifully veiled interpretation”.
