Penned by the Italian journalist Luca Vitali, The Sound of the North – Norway and the European Jazz Scene is a book that investigates and lavishly documents the last 50 years of the Scandinavian jazz scene, with a particular focus on music born in Norway. From the arrival of George Russell to the country and his help in defining a sound distinct from the African-American model, to the important contribution to the affirmation of the ECM External Link label and a survey of the history of the most important clubs and festivals, Vitali has prepared a guide that follows and contextualizes the contribution made to the history of jazz by musicians who have turned this region into one of the richest incubators of contemporary music.
