The world soon realised it witnessed a rare prodigy when South Korean pianist Seong-Jin Cho won, in 2015, the International Chopin Piano Competition – which had already launched the likes of Maurizio Pollini and Martha Argerich. At the time, Deutsche Grammophon released the first recordings of the pianist, a resounding sales success in Korea. Along with precocious maturity, Cho displays, as praised by the Financial Times, poetry, introspection and gracefulness involved in each of his piano notes.
