Led by guitarist Trey Spruance, who speaks in his résumé of the move from the equally crazy Mr. Bungle, the Secret Chiefs 3 is a kaleidoscope of different languages, in which we can find traces of surf rock and death metal, music that is clearly affiliated to the traditions of the Middle East and film music after the school of Morricone. The resultant sonority is a collage that is as effective and delirious as it is explosive and unfettered of languages that struggle all the time for primacy. Some time ago, Pitchfork called Spruance a “visionary madman capable of instilling both fear and respect in his listeners”.
