One of the most acclaimed conductors in the world, David Zinman is committed to developing the sound of each orchestra, having spent 19 years at the helm of the Tonhalle Orchestra in Zurich, which elevated him to the top of European symphonic music. In his farewell to the orchestra, the Guardian praised him for his “intelligence and emotional refinement”, hailing his “exceptional understanding” of the works of Richard Strauss. He left such a pervading mark in the music of recent decades that many have been led to refer to him as “the greatest conductor of our time”. Also notable is the appearance of the pianist Piotr Anderszewski, who performs in three different programmes during the season.
