The Israeli violinist and conductor Pinchas Zukerman is a musician who has built an almost legendary aura around him, since his name conquered Europe alongside Jacqueline du Pré and Daniel Barenboim. He has always been a more intuitive than academic musician, preferring to be present in both rehearsals and concerts, taking care to savour the identity of every note. “I never wanted to be better than the others”, he said in an interview. “I just wanted, every day, to do as well as I could.” In his case, despite his modesty, that means being amongst the best. He returns to the Gulbenkian Music season seven years after his last performance.
