The French cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras was a resident artist at the Gulbenkian Foundation during the 2010/11 season, and he returns to the Grand Auditorium with a project in which he is joined by the Chemirani brothers, percussionists of Iranian origin, and the Greek Sokratis Sinopoulos. A former soloist of the Ensemble Intercontemporain, Queyras is known for the apparently inexhaustible versatility of his musical language, and he has found in this quartet a ground for discovery in which jazz and Western music are repeatedly contaminated by melodic traditions from Iran, Turkey and Greece with a distinct Mediterranean flavour.
