The wide range of references of the German composer Max Richter is fully revealed in this very personal vision of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. A student of Luciano Berio and a post-minimalist composer, Richter also moved towards the experimental currents of electronic music and rock. He applied these discoveries, and others such as sampling techniques, in the task of “recomposing” The Four Seasons, an early fascination in his life and to which he decided to give free expression. This “labour of love”, in Richter’s words, will be directed by the German conductor André de Ridder, with Goist Francisco Lima Santos. Ridder directed the recording of the work in 2012 and had immediate success worldwide, including an ECHO Award.
