Ton Koopman is acknowledged to be one of the greatest specialists in the music world on the Baroque period, having dedicated himself with impeccable care to “authentic interpretations” of the work of J. S. Bach. One of his superb recordings, which definitively established the conductor’s name at the head of the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, was made in 1983 with his readings of Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos. The albums that document his intense relationship with Bach’s music are an essential part of the composer’s recommended discography.
